   Dr. Allen R. McFarland
Founder / Chancellor

Angelos Bible college began its unique mission as Angelos Bible Institute in 1984 when a church member of Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church asked Dr. Allen R. McFarland to teach a Greek class. Within a few years, the institute began offering several Bible classes. In 1988, Dr. McFarland asked Pastor Robert Baker to serve as president of the institute. During Pastor Baker’s tenure, the institute grew and maintained an enrollment of approximately 50 students and 8 teachers.  Pastor Baker served at the institute until 1990. From 1990-to 1993, the institute remained a teaching vehicle for the church, but expansion was stagnant. However, from 1990-to 1998, the institute grew to over 75 students enrolled. In 1998, Maurice Jones became the institute’s president and he served in that capacity until 2000.

In June 2000, Dr. McFarland asked Dr. Charles Bowens to become the president of the institute. By August of that year, Dr. Bowens had obtained approval from the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV) to change the name of the institute from Angelos Bible Institute to Angelos Bible College. It received permission to offer certificates, Associate Degrees, Bachelor’s Degrees, and Master’s Degrees in several programs of study.

Dr. Bowens also applied and received permission from the Department of Education’s Veterans Education Division for the college to offer veteran’s benefits. In addition, he applied to the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI)and received approval for the college to become a member of ACSI. The college received approval to offer Continuing Education Units (CEU) to students who take college courses. Angelos has applied and became a member of the American Association of Colleges and Seminaries (AACC&S). The college has applied for candidacy accreditation status with the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS).

In 2007 Dr. Charles Bowens retired as President of Angelos Bible College. That same year Chancellor/acting President Dr. Allen R. McFarland recommended Dr. Philip R. McFarland as the Interim President to the Board of Directors. Dr. Philip McFarland was asked by Angelos Board of Directors in June of 2007 to serve as the fifth President of the college. Dr. Philip McFarland served as President of Angelos Bible College from 2007-2009.  In 2011 Dr. Ronald H. Jones became the sixth  President of Angelos.  Dr. Julian McGhee served on the Board of Directors for 13 years. He also served as Provost until Dr. Jones's retirement in 2012.  Dr. Julian McGhee was appointed in 2012 by the Board of Directors as the seventh  President of Angelos Bible College.  Dr. LeRoy Hill Jr. was appointed as the president in August 2021.
